Supreme Court orders SBP to 'release' funds for Punjab polling


ISLAMABAD A three- member bench of the Supreme Court on Friday expressed" annoyance" over thenon-implementation of its order in the Punjab election detention and directed the State Bank of Pakistan( SBP) to" release funds directly" to the Election Commission of Pakistan, sources told Geo News. 
 
 The bench conducted an in- chamber hail of the case moment and issued directives to the concerned authorities. 
 
 In line with the process, SBP Deputy Governor Sima Kamil, special clerk finance, fresh clerk finance, ECP clerk and AGP Mansoor Usman Awan appeared before the bench. 
 
 As per sources during the hail judges expressed annoyance over thenon-implementation of the court orders and told the government that the orders will have to be enforced. 
 
 The officers, privy to the hail said that Attorney General for Pakistan Mansoor Usman Awan was asked tough questions regarding the government’s station during the hail. 
 
 “ The civil government enforced the April 4 order of the Supreme Court, ” the AGP told the bench. He added that the government also tabled a bill in the National Assembly for the release of finances from the Federal Consolidated finances. 
 
 “ The government can not ask the SBP to issue the finances after the rejection of the bill from the congress, ” AGP Awan said as per sources. 
 
 The SC bench, headed by Chief Justice of Pakistan( CJP) Umar Ata Bandial, had directed the electoral body to hold choices in Punjab on May 14, and the civil government to give finances amounting to Rs21 billion to the Election Commission of Pakistan( ECP) by April 10. 
 
 still, the ECP submitted a report to the apex court on Tuesday stating that the civil government hadn't handed finances for the pates.
